Methodology

  • Dataset: all 3,427 AI agents & tools listed on AgentLocker, scanned August 13, 2026.
  • Dead means: the domain no longer resolves (85), the server never responds (45), the homepage returns 404/410/5xx (66), or the domain is parked for resale (5).
  • Redirected (111) means the site permanently forwards to a different company's domain — a common signature of acquisitions, pivots, and domain sales. We count these separately, not as dead.
  • Ambiguous results (bot walls, timeouts we couldn't classify) count as alive, so the real death rate is likely higher than reported.
  • "Average time to going dark" measures months between a tool being listed here and failing its health check — an upper-bound proxy, since tools may die before we notice.
