Vocci has entered the crowded market for AI meeting note-takers with a new device shaped like a ring. The gadget joins a growing list of hardware options that includes pins, pendants, and credit-card-style recorders.
The ring form factor is designed to be simple. Users press a button to begin capturing a conversation, similar to competing products from Pebble and Sandbar.
Vocci's version is built specifically around meeting note-taking. A double-tap on the button starts a recording, and another double-tap stops it.
How the Ring Works
Holding the button down lets users ask questions to Vocci AI, but this only functions when the app is open on a connected phone. The ring includes a small light and a haptic motor to confirm when recording is active.
The device weighs under six grams and uses titanium on its inner and outer surfaces. Vocci says the ring can record for up to eight hours before needing a charge.
It comes with a plastic carrying case that can recharge the ring as many as three times before the case itself needs power.
During testing, the ring performed well in loud environments. Conversations lasting over an hour in busy cafes were converted into accurate transcripts.
However, the format is less suited for quick, short notes. Reviewers found that brief recordings still triggered long AI-generated summaries that outsized the original note.
App Experience Falls Short
The companion app drew criticism for being confusing to navigate. Each recording is broken into three sections: Chat for the full transcript, Highlights for short clips flagged during recording, and Notes for a summary of the conversation.
A separate tab called Base stores transcripts and generated content, which testers found redundant alongside the other sections. There was also no direct way to start an AI chat about a specific transcript from within a session.
The app currently lacks integration with reminder tools, limiting its use for quick task capture. Vocci has rolled out features slowly, including support for Model Context Protocol, which lets the ring connect to other AI assistants.
That MCP option only became available in the app a few weeks ago, according to the company.
Other note-taking platforms are building deeper automation and workflow tools powered by AI. Vocci's system is not yet built out to match those capabilities.
Privacy is another concern tied to the ring's design. Because it resembles ordinary jewelry, people nearby may not realize recording is taking place unless they notice the button.
The recording indicator light faces the wearer rather than the people being recorded. In some countries, disclosing that a conversation is being recorded is a legal requirement, not just a courtesy.
Vocci has stated that it encourages users to disclose when they are recording. Critics argue that policy alone may not be enough to prevent misuse given how discreet the device is.
At $249, the ring costs more than other note-taking devices, including Plaud and Pocket. The price reflects its lightweight, jewelry-like design rather than a wearable band or pendant.
The ring targets users who prefer not to wear a visible gadget on their wrist, neck, or phone case. Most devices in this category share a similar hardware setup: a microphone, a battery, and a wireless connection to a smartphone.
As competition grows, more variations in form factor are expected across the note-taking hardware market.
