Uber handled about 320 million trips and orders during the week of Halloween, its busiest week in October. Of those, just four rides were booked through a personal AI agent.
The company shared the figure on its third-quarter earnings call on Wednesday. Chief Financial Officer Balaji Krishnamurthy gave the numbers to Wall Street analysts during the call.
AI agents did a little better on the food side of the business. Uber Eats received about 500 orders placed by an AI agent during the same week.
That total is still very small next to the company’s overall volume. Combined, rides and food orders from AI agents made up less than one thousandth of one percent of weekly activity.
The four agent-booked rides equal about one for every 80 million trips and orders the company handled that week. Nearly all customers still used the Uber app directly.
Speed of the Uber App
CEO Dara Khosrowshahi pointed to how fast the Uber app already works. He said the average time to book a ride in the app is only 50 seconds.
Re-ordering a favorite meal takes about 90 seconds, he said. Those short times suggest that handing the task to an AI agent may not save users much time.
“It is very, very early and very limited traction that we are seeing so far,” Khosrowshahi said of the agent orders. “Listen, we hope that there will be more traction.”
DoorDash has reported a similar pattern. On its own earnings call last week, the delivery company said it had received only a few hundred orders from AI agents so far.
Most DoorDash customers are still ordering directly through its app. Uber appears to be seeing the same behavior from its users.
AI Companies Are Calling Uber
The low numbers come as tech companies push a new wave of AI agents. These tools are designed to complete tasks for users, not just answer questions.
OpenAI, Anthropic, Google and SpaceXAI, which makes Grok, all offer their own agents. Many smaller startups have also launched agent products in recent months.
One of the most talked-about startups is Instinct, which was founded last year. It raised its latest funding round at a $10 billion valuation.
Meta’s Muse became the No. 1 app in Apple’s U.S. App Store last month. Meta said the app passed 10 million users and that many people use it to shop and transact with businesses.
Khosrowshahi said there are about eight major AI assistants on the market today. He expects that number to grow to more than 10 over time.
He described agents as another path for customers to reach Uber’s platform. “We think it will be a net positive in terms of demand on the ecosystem,” he said. “Every single AI system company is talking to us,” Khosrowshahi added.
