OpenAI has rolled out a set of AI-powered advertising tools built for ChatGPT. The company says the update is meant to make ads more useful for users and easier for businesses to manage.
The centerpiece of the announcement is a feature called Sponsored Agents. It lets people continue a conversation with a business after clicking on an ad inside ChatGPT.
For example, someone browsing for furniture might see an ad for a dining table. Instead of just visiting a website, they can ask the sponsored agent questions about size, seating, or material.
The conversation is separate from the user's main chat with ChatGPT. OpenAI says it is clearly labeled so users know they are talking to a business-sponsored agent rather than ChatGPT itself.
Sponsored Agents are currently being tested with a limited group of advertisers in the United States. OpenAI has not said when the feature will expand further.
AI Tools for Building and Managing Ads
OpenAI is also adding AI tools to help businesses create and manage their campaigns. Advertisers can now use natural-language prompts inside ChatGPT to build, update, and analyze ad campaigns through the Ads Manager plugin.
This means a business can turn a website or a short brief into a working ad campaign without manual setup. The tool can also explain how a campaign is performing and suggest next steps.
Inside Ads Manager itself, OpenAI is adding AI suggestions for ad copy and images. These suggestions are based on a business's landing page and campaign goals.
Advertisers still choose whether to use the suggested content. OpenAI says they can review and edit everything before it goes live.
The company is also introducing an opt-in feature for AI-powered text customization. This tool adjusts existing headlines and descriptions to fit a conversation and can translate ad copy into a user's preferred language.
New Partnerships With HubSpot and Shopify
OpenAI is expanding its advertising platform through two new partnerships. HubSpot is now OpenAI's first CRM partner, and Shopify is its first ecommerce partner.
Businesses using HubSpot can connect a ChatGPT Ads account directly. From there, they can create ads, track performance, and follow up on leads using their existing HubSpot data.
Shopify merchants in the United States can now use a new ChatGPT Ads app in the Shopify App Store. Since products are already linked through the Shopify Catalog, merchants can begin running ads right away.
OpenAI says the Shopify app will become available in more countries starting September 23. The rollout will match the markets where ChatGPT Ads already operates.
Businesses interested in the new advertising tools can sign up through OpenAI's ads website. Companies using HubSpot or Shopify can also get started directly through those platforms' app stores.
