Nvidia to Invest in Four German AI Startups as Part of $10 Billion Europe Plan

Nvidia is expanding its investments in Europe’s artificial intelligence sector. The U.S. chipmaker said it plans to back four German startups as Germany works to strengthen its role in industrial AI.

The plans were announced at the Invest in Germany Summit in Berlin on Monday, October 19. The investments are part of Nvidia’s nearly $10 billion commitment to companies, universities and research institutions across Europe.

Nvidia Names Four German Startups

The four startups are Agile Robots, Avelios Medical, Mirelo and Reflex Aerospace. Nvidia did not disclose how much it plans to invest in each company.

Agile Robots develops AI-powered robots for manufacturing, logistics and healthcare. Avelios Medical builds AI-powered software for managing hospitals.

Mirelo develops AI models that create audio for videos. Reflex Aerospace designs and builds satellites.

German Chancellor Friedrich Merz spoke at the summit alongside Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang. Merz called AI a major opportunity for Germany’s economy.

He said Germany aims to become a leader in bringing AI into key sectors. He named manufacturing, machinery and the automotive industry as areas of focus.

Merz also spoke directly to Germany’s small and medium-sized businesses. He urged them to make use of the data they already hold.

“Please open your doors for AI to make use of your data,” Merz said. He called the data already available in German companies “a real secret and a real advantage for Germany.”

Huang agreed with Merz and pointed to Germany’s strengths in manufacturing, mathematics and science. He said AI would support the country’s industrial skills, not take their place.

“AI can only augment your capability, it will not replace your capability,” Huang said. He described AI as a new instrument for businesses.

Government Deal and Siemens Partnership

Nvidia is also widening its work with the German federal government. This includes the government’s “Industry 4.0 Platform,” which brings together government, industry, research and trade groups.

On Monday, the German government signed a joint declaration of intent with Nvidia. The agreement aims to advance AI models for industrial use.

Earlier the same day, Siemens announced new AI tools developed with Nvidia. The tools were presented at its factory in Erlangen, Germany.

Siemens said the technology could reduce the engineering work needed to prepare production by up to 85%. It also said AI-powered production planning could lower costs by as much as 20%.

The Berlin announcements followed Huang’s trip to France last week. There, he announced investments in four French startups and met with French President Emmanuel Macron to discuss AI development.

Huang is scheduled to give a keynote speech in Berlin on Wednesday.
