Cloudera and Mistral AI have announced a new partnership. The companies revealed the deal on September 10, 2026.
The partnership focuses on enterprise data. It targets industries like financial services, manufacturing, and telecommunications.
These industries handle large amounts of sensitive data. Many of them already use Cloudera's platform to manage that data across cloud and on-prem systems.
Running AI Inside Company Walls
The first part of the deal lets companies run Mistral's AI models directly inside Cloudera's hybrid data platform. This means businesses can deploy the models in private cloud, public cloud, on-prem, or fully air-gapped environments.
Air-gapped systems are not connected to outside networks. This setup is often used by companies that need extra security.
The goal is to let enterprises use AI without losing control of where it runs. Companies choose the environment that fits their needs.
The second part of the partnership focuses on custom models. Enterprises will be able to train AI systems using their own proprietary data.
This data can include years of internal records. Examples include loan decisions, factory production data, and network information.
Companies will own both the data and the resulting AI models. Cloudera and Mistral say this keeps the intelligence built from that data under the customer's control.
Why Enterprises Want Control Over Their Data
Abhas Ricky is Chief Business Officer and General Manager of Applied AI at Cloudera. He said general-purpose AI models are a starting point, not an end point.
Ricky said the real value comes from models trained on data that is unique to each company. He said this shift moves businesses from renting generic AI to owning intelligence built for their own operations.
Kamal Brar is Senior Vice President of Partnerships and Alliances at Mistral. He said the partnership brings Mistral's AI to the large amount of data Cloudera's customers already manage.
Cloudera currently manages 30 exabytes of customer data on its platform. Brar said the two companies are looking forward to working with joint customers going forward.
The partnership is built around a concept called sovereign AI. This means data, AI models, computing power, and daily operations all stay under the customer's control.
Under this setup, data stays within boundaries the customer sets. Companies can also choose which country or region their AI training and processing takes place in.
The AI systems can also be adjusted and improved over time. Cloudera and Mistral say this can happen without handing control to an outside platform.
Businesses in regulated industries often face strict rules about data handling. Rules can vary by country and by industry.
The partnership is designed to help companies follow those rules while still using AI tools. It also lets them keep sensitive data inside systems they manage directly.
Cloudera and Mistral did not share a launch date for when the joint tools will be available to customers. Neither company shared pricing details for the new offering.
