Google's Gemini app has passed 1 billion monthly active users. CEO Sundar Pichai shared the news on X this week.
Pichai said Gemini is now the 14th Google product to reach the 1 billion user mark. He called it one of the company's fastest growing products.
The milestone puts Gemini close to OpenAI's ChatGPT. ChatGPT reached 1 billion monthly active users back in June 2026.
Where Gemini Shows Up
Google has placed Gemini across many of its products. This includes Search, Workspace, Android, and the standalone Gemini app.
The company's AI Mode in Search has also passed 1 billion monthly active users. That number is separate from the Gemini app total.
Google said the app now has more than 100 million active users on iOS. This shows growth happening outside of Google's own devices.
Voice features play a big part in how people use the app. Google said 63% of Gemini users talk to the assistant using voice.
The app also produces a large number of images. Google said Gemini generates more than 150 million images each day.
New Tools and What Comes Next
Google recently rolled out a model called Gemini 3.5 Flash. The company says it is built to help with coding and AI agent tasks.
This update is part of a wider push toward agent based tools. Google wants Gemini to handle more complex, multi step tasks going forward.
The 1 billion user milestone comes shortly after Google's Q2 2026 earnings call. During that call, Google reported over 950 million monthly users.
Google also said daily active users tripled over the past year. That growth trend appears to have carried into the new milestone.
The timing lines up with Google's upcoming Made by Google event. The event is where Google usually shows off new hardware and software.
Google is expected to announce more Gemini powered features at the event. These upgrades are likely to appear across Pixel devices.
The company has not shared an exact date for when Gemini crossed the 1 billion mark. It also has not released a breakdown of users by region.
For now, Google says the growth reflects wider use of Gemini across search, mobile, and productivity tools. More details are expected as the Made by Google event gets closer.
