Google has shared a roundup of its AI announcements from September 2026. The list, published on October 2, covers new models, apps, hardware, and science projects.
The biggest release was Gemini 4 Argon. Google calls it its newest frontier model.
Gemini 4 Argon Leads New Model Releases
Argon is built for advanced reasoning and has a 1-million-token output limit. Google says the model is designed for coding, cybersecurity defense, financial research, and legal drafting.
The model can also handle autonomous cybersecurity patching. Google said releasing these abilities safely requires a phased approach.
Google also launched Gemini 3.8 Flash. The company says it offers its best reasoning and coding performance so far at the same speed and low cost as 3.7 Flash.
A related model, Gemini 3.8 Flash Cyber, focuses on finding software flaws and patching code automatically. It is available to trusted organizations through the Fairwind Program.
For voice, Google released Gemini 3.8 Live and 3.8 Live Extended Thinking. Both are available to developers and to users in Search Live, Gemini Live, and Google Workspace.
New text-to-speech models let users create custom voices from simple prompts. The music model Lyria 3.5 is also now available globally in the Gemini app.
New Devices and Apps
Googlebook, a laptop built on Android with desktop features from ChromeOS, is now open for pre-order. It includes on-device AI tools such as Magic Pointer and Rambler voice dictation.
The Gemini app is now available on Windows. Users can open it with the Alt + Space shortcut.
Gemini also added Connected Apps from companies including Adobe, Airtable, Peloton, Squarespace, and Experian. Users can link these apps in their Gemini settings.
Google Labs expanded its CC agent to work with groups. It can now manage family calendars and shared to-do lists as an experimental preview.
Google also released WeatherNext 3, its newest weather AI model. It adds real-time satellite data, hourly updates, and higher resolution forecasts.
On the science side, Google introduced AlphaGenome Atlas. The database predicts the effects of all 9 billion possible single-letter changes in human DNA.
Google worked with NASA's Jet Propulsion Laboratory on MAPL-EMIT, a model that tracks methane leaks from space. Google says it detects 50% more emissions than human experts and has found over 23,000 previously unmapped plumes.
Scientists at Google, HHMI Janelia, and Cambridge University also mapped the full brain of an adult male fruit fly. The map charts over 166,000 neurons and nearly 12,000 cell types.
Project Suncatcher will launch its first test satellite with Planet. The goal is to see how Google's TPU chips perform in space, where satellites can get up to eight times more solar power.
Fast Company named Google its 2026 Design Company of the Year for its work on AI interfaces.
For now, Gemini 4 Argon remains limited to trusted cyber defenders. Google says it is gathering feedback from early testers before expanding access to developers, businesses, and consumers.
