Boston Dynamics has appointed Rohit Prasad as its new chief executive officer. The robot maker, which is owned by Hyundai Motor Group, announced the news on Wednesday.
Prasad is a former senior executive at Amazon. His appointment took effect on October 7.
Who Is Rohit Prasad
At Amazon, Prasad served as senior vice president and head scientist for Alexa and Artificial General Intelligence. He was one of the company's top leaders in artificial intelligence.
He was closely linked to Alexa, Amazon's voice assistant. He later led the company's work on artificial general intelligence, a type of AI designed to handle a wide range of tasks.
Boston Dynamics said Prasad will bring his experience turning physical AI breakthroughs into commercial success. Physical AI refers to AI systems that act in the real world, such as robots.
The company's statement focused on that business experience. It pointed to his record of taking AI research and turning it into products.
Leadership Change at Boston Dynamics
Prasad succeeds Robert Playter, who stepped down as CEO in February. Playter had spent decades at Boston Dynamics and became CEO in 2020.
The company had been without a permanent chief executive since his exit. Prasad now fills that role.
Boston Dynamics is known for robots that can walk, run and climb. Its products include the Spot robot dog and the Atlas humanoid robot.
Hyundai Motor Group took control of Boston Dynamics in 2021. The company was previously owned by SoftBank Group.
Atlas robots were shown at the Hyundai Motor Group booth at CES 2026 in Las Vegas in January. CES is a yearly consumer electronics trade show.
In January, Hyundai Motor Group said it aims to build a factory that can make 30,000 robot units each year by 2028.
The group plans to start deploying those robots across all of its manufacturing sites that same year.
Hyundai has also said it plans to use humanoid robots at a factory in the United States starting in 2028.
Prasad takes over as Boston Dynamics works toward those targets. His role as chief executive officially began on October 7.
