Anthropic has launched Claude Tag, a new tool that lets teams bring its AI model directly into Slack channels. It is available today in beta for Enterprise and Team customers.
Instead of using a private chat window, users simply type @Claude in a shared channel to assign it a task. Any team member in that channel can see what it is working on, add to the conversation, or pick up where someone else left off.
How Claude Tag Works
Claude Tag is built on Anthropic's Opus 4.8 model. When given a task, it breaks the work into stages and works through them using whatever tools, data, or codebases it has been given access to.
One of its core features is asynchronous operation. A team member can assign a task and walk away. Claude Tag will continue working on it, sometimes over multiple hours or days, without needing someone to stay in the conversation.
If "ambient" mode is enabled by administrators, Claude Tag will proactively flag relevant information, follow up on unresolved threads, and send alerts across connected tools — without being prompted.
Claude Tag also builds context over time. It remembers relevant information from the channels it operates in, so teams do not have to re-explain background details every time they assign a new task.
Where It Fits in the Workplace
Anthropic says 65% of its internal product team's code is now generated through its own version of Claude Tag. The company says the tool is spreading beyond engineering into areas like data queries, support tickets, and bug investigations.
"The form factor of being able to tag it the same way that you would a coworker is really powerful," said Cat Wu, head of product for Claude Code, speaking to Reuters.
Early customer use cases include querying database metrics, parsing analytics, and processing IT support tickets.
Controls and Security
System administrators control exactly what Claude Tag can access and in which channels. Each channel gets its own scoped Claude identity, keeping memories and tool access separate. A sales-configured Claude will not share data or context with an engineering one.
Admins can set monthly token spend limits for the whole organisation or individual channels, and can view a full log of every task Claude Tag has completed and who requested it.
Claude Tag replaces the existing Claude in Slack app. Current Enterprise and Team customers have 30 days to migrate. Anthropic is offering an introductory launch credit to eligible organisations.
This launch follows Anthropic's $65 billion Series H funding round, which placed its post-money valuation at $965 billion — above OpenAI's $852 billion. Anthropic has also filed a confidential S-1 for a potential IPO.
According to Ramp's May 2026 AI Index, Anthropic's enterprise adoption rate stands at 34.4%, ahead of OpenAI at 32.3%.
